Purnea: Residents of Bihar’s Seemanchal region can now travel to Delhi directly, as a new flight service from Purnea to Delhi has been launched. This development comes just 18 days after the inauguration of Purnea Airport and is expected to make travel faster, more convenient, and affordable for millions of people. Earlier, travelers had to take longer routes via Patna or Bagdogra, which were time-consuming and expensive.
The flight, operated by IndiGo, will run daily with 186 seats. According to Purnea Airport Manager D.K. Gupta, the flight leaves Delhi at 10:45 am and reaches Purnea at 12:50 pm. The return flight departs Purnea at 1:50 pm and lands in Delhi at 3:55 pm. Ticket fares start at around Rs 6,300 for Purnea-Delhi and Rs 5,000 for Delhi-Purnea. Online booking portals are showing fares ranging from Rs 4,800 to Rs 7,300 depending on the date, with sufficient seats currently available.
This flight is a major achievement for the region. Since the airport’s inauguration, residents, local leaders, business groups, and intellectuals had repeatedly requested direct flights to the capital. Recognizing the region’s growing passenger traffic and strategic importance, IndiGo responded to the demand, making this historic route possible. Currently, Purnea Airport already operates daily flights to Kolkata through IndiGo and Star Air, and Star Air will begin daily services to Ahmedabad from October 15. More than 90% of the existing flights are fully booked, showing strong demand.
The new Purnea-Delhi flight will bring multiple benefits. Students, professionals, businessmen, and general travelers from Seemanchal, Kosi, and Mithila regions will save time and reduce travel expenses. The improved air connectivity is also expected to boost investment, tourism, and educational opportunities in the region. As part of the UDAN Regional Connectivity Scheme, Purnea Airport is gradually becoming an important hub for North Bihar and even Nepal, offering a major push for the region’s economic and social development.
