Patna: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday announced a series of initiatives for the youth of Bihar, with a total investment of Rs 62,000 crore, during the Yuva Samvad programme. The event focused on providing opportunities for education, skill development, and employment. Modi also interacted with young people virtually, highlighting the government’s commitment to helping them build their careers and achieve their goals.
A key part of the announcement was the launch of the PM Setu Yojana, which aims to develop 1,000 government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across India, with an investment of around ₹60,000 crore. These institutes will provide vocational training and skills that will prepare students for jobs in modern industries. In Bihar, this complements the Chief Minister’s Self-Help Allowance Scheme, which has also been extended under the Prime Minister’s guidance.
Under the updated scheme, unemployed youth with intermediate or graduate degrees will receive financial assistance of Rs 1,000 per month for two years, benefiting approximately 500,000 young people. In addition to financial support, the scheme provides training in language, computer, and communication skills, helping youth become more employable. Originally launched in 2016, the scheme has now been expanded to include a larger number of unemployed graduates.
The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for new academic and research facilities at four universities in Bihar and inaugurated the new campus of NIT Bihta. These steps aim to strengthen higher education infrastructure in the state, giving students better opportunities for learning, research, and career development. The schemes are expected to help Bihar’s youth gain skills, secure employment, and contribute to the state’s overall growth.
