Patna: The Bihar government has made an important decision to help young graduates who are struggling to find jobs. The state’s Planning and Development Department has announced that the Chief Minister’s Self-Help Allowance Scheme, which started in 2016, will now also cover unemployed graduates. Under this scheme, eligible young men and women will get Rs 1,000 per month for up to two years while they look for employment or try to start their own work.
The scheme was first launched in 2016 as part of the Good Governance Programme (2015–20) and was linked to the state government’s goal of “Economic Solution, Strength to Youth.” Until now, only those who had passed the 12th standard and were not studying further could get the benefit. But from now on, even graduates from arts, science, and commerce streams will be eligible. The government has extended this scheme under the Saat Nishchay-2 programme till the financial year 2025–26.
According to officials, the main aim of this step is to support young people financially during their job search. The government wants to ensure that the youth of Bihar are not discouraged while looking for work. Around five lakh beneficiaries are expected to receive benefits under the scheme every year, with a total budget of about Rs 600 crore annually. In addition to the monthly allowance, beneficiaries will also get free skill development training from the Labour Resources Department to improve their chances of employment or self-employment.
To make sure that all eligible youth know about the scheme, the Planning and Development Department has sent official copies of the new rules and information to all universities, district officers, divisional commissioners, college principals, and planning officers. The government wants every eligible student to be aware of this opportunity and take advantage of it.
Interested youth can apply for the scheme online through the government’s special website — https://www.7nishchay-yuvaupmission.bihar.gov.in. They can also visit their District Registration and Counselling Centre to learn more. For any help or queries, applicants can contact the Yuva Nishchay Suvidha Kendra through the toll-free number 1800-3456-4444.
With this new expansion, the Bihar government hopes to give unemployed graduates a sense of financial security and confidence while they search for jobs. The scheme is also expected to strengthen the government’s promise of supporting youth through education, employment, and skill development, helping them build a brighter future in the state.
