Patna: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated Bihar’s first skills university, the Bharat Ratna Jananayak Karpuri Thakur Skill University, through video conferencing, in what is being hailed as a landmark step in expanding employment-oriented education and modern skill development for the state’s youth.
The ceremony was joined virtually by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, Union Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha, and senior Bihar ministers including Vijay Kumar Chaudhary. Vice Chancellor Deepak Anand and Registrar Rajesh Bharti were also present for the launch.

At the same time, appointment letters were handed over to 4,000 candidates selected by the Labour Resources Department at a function held at Bapu Sabhagar in Patna. The state government has set an ambitious target of connecting 1 crore young people with jobs and self-employment opportunities over the next five years.
The university has been set up to expand the skill development programmes envisioned under Nitish- government’s Saat Nischay Part 1 and 2 schemes. It will not only impart vocational and technical training but also promote entrepreneurship, research, and innovation. Officials said it will affiliate with skill development institutes across the state, conduct examinations, and confer degrees to enable Bihar’s youth to compete nationally and internationally.

Ministers present at the event, including Health Minister Mangal Pandey and Labour Resources Minister Santosh Kumar Singh, stressed that the government was committed to creating new employment pathways. A high-level committee chaired by the Development Commissioner will soon be formed to identify opportunities and frame a five-year jobs policy.

“The establishment of this university and today’s distribution of appointment letters reflect our commitment to building a skilled, self-reliant, and progressive Bihar,” a senior official said.
