Patna: The Election Commission of India has announced the schedule for the 2025 Bihar assembly elections, with voting to take place in two phases on November 6 and 11.
In Patna district, polling will be held in the first phase on November 6 across all 14 assembly constituencies. Voting will run from 7am to 6pm, the standard timing for urban constituencies, officials confirmed at a press conference in Patna.
The commission urged citizens to treat the election “like a festival”, drawing a parallel with Chhath, Bihar’s most widely celebrated occasion. Political parties are now intensifying their internal discussions over candidate selection.
Patna’s constituencies include Mokama, Barh, Bakhtiyarpur, Digha, Bankipur, Kumhrar, Patna Sahib, Fatuha, Danapur, Maner, Phulwari (reserved for Scheduled Caste), Masaurhi (Scheduled Caste), Paliganj and Bikram. In the 2020 assembly polls, these seats were shared among the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress and the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist).
According to the final 2025 electoral roll, Patna has 4,815,294 registered voters, including 2,540,363 men, 2,274,774 women and 157 third gender voters. Digha is the district’s largest constituency, with around 456,000 electors, while Paliganj is the smallest, with approximately 283,000.
The administration has set a target of “Mission 60%”, aiming to improve turnout from the 57% recorded in Patna in 2020.
Statewide, the Special Intensive Revision Campaign led to the removal of about 6.9 million names from the rolls. In Patna, the voter list grew from 4.65 million in the draft to 4.81 million after corrections and additions.
