Patna: Patna witnessed an unexpected road disruption near the Mithapur vegetable market when an old underground drain gave way, washing away the soil beneath the service road. The collapse caused a section of the service road to cave in, raising concerns for commuters and residents who use the route daily. Officials have confirmed that the damage occurred because the drain had become weak due to age and continuous water flow.
The problem has also affected the approach road to the Mithapur Flyover, with part of the flyover’s Reinforced Earth (RE) panel shifting due to the weakened ground. The flyover and its approach road, constructed by IRCON, are vital for daily traffic in the area. Following the collapse, traffic on the damaged service road and flyover access has been completely stopped to ensure safety.
The Municipal Corporation, along with the Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUIDCO), is working to divert the damaged drain. Their priority is to stop further erosion of the soil and prevent additional damage. Technical experts are monitoring the site closely to plan the safest and most effective way to restore the roads.
Officials have assured that repair work on both the service road and the flyover approach will begin soon. Residents and commuters are advised to avoid the area until the restoration is completed. The incident highlights the importance of maintaining old infrastructure to prevent sudden disruptions that can affect daily life in the city.
