Patna: Patna police have arrested five people, including a mother, in connection with the kidnapping of her own son in a plot to extort money from the father.
The case emerged in the Danapur police station area after the boy’s father filed a complaint on Saturday, reporting that his son had been abducted and that the kidnappers were demanding a ransom of Rs 21 lakh. A special investigation team (SIT) led by the Assistant Superintendent of Police, Danapur 1, was quickly formed. Within six hours, the child was safely recovered and the accused taken into custody.

According to Patna West Superintendent of Police Bhanu Pratap Singh, the mother, Anju Devi, orchestrated the kidnapping to extract the ransom from her husband. The plot involved several family members and a neighbour: the child’s uncle, maternal uncle, aunt, and the neighbour were all implicated. The arrested individuals are Anju Devi, Pankaj Kumar (uncle), Ravins Kumar (maternal uncle), Sanju Devi (aunt), and Anil Kumar (neighbour). Police also recovered the mobile phone used to negotiate the ransom.
The case highlights the rising sophistication of kidnapping and ransom schemes in the capital and has raised concerns about internal family involvement in such crimes.
