Benipur/Darbhanga: The Alinagar Assembly constituency witnessed a flurry of activity on Friday, the final day for nominations in the first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections, highlighted by the filing of papers by BJP candidate and acclaimed folk singer, Maithili Thakur.
The nomination process shed light on the financial holdings of the young candidate. According to her affidavit, Thakur has declared considerable assets, including Rs 1.80 lakh in cash, and a total of vehicles and jewelry valued at over Rs 2 crore. Her portfolio of immovable assets is valued at Rs 1.5 crore, which includes a land purchase made in 2022 valued at Rs 47 lakh.
Thakur, a resident of Uren village in Madhubani district, is a graduate of Bharti College, Delhi University. The affidavit confirms that no criminal cases are registered against her.
Pledge to Transform Alinagar
After completing the formalities at the Benipur subdivision office, Maithili Thakur, recognized as the youngest candidate across the state, addressed her immediate priorities.
“I have taken a pledge to make Alinagar an ideal city,” Thakur stated, expressing her commitment to achieving this goal.
Crowded Field on Final Day
The Alinagar Assembly constituency became one of the most keenly watched seats, with a total of 13 candidates filing their nominations on the final day.
The high-profile contest pits Maithili Thakur (BJP) against the Rashtriya Janata Dal’s (RJD) Vinod Mishra.
Other notable filings from Alinagar included:

- Rajipal Jha (Aam Aadmi Party)
- A host of independent candidates: Navijan Ansari, Saifuddin Ahmed, Ganesh Chaudhary, Md. Qadir, Sitambar Sharma, Narudin Jangi, Chandu Chaudhary, Vijay Yadav, and Mahmood Alam.
The nomination cell for the neighboring Benipur Assembly constituency also saw filings, including Congress candidate Mithilesh Choudhary, and several independent candidates like Pramod Sahu and Shankar Mallick.
