Patna: Bhojpuri actor and singer Shatrughan Yadav, popularly known by his stage name Khesari Lal Yadav, has officially entered the electoral fray for the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, filing his nomination as the candidate for the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). Khesari is contesting from the politically crucial Chhapra Assembly seat in the Saran district.

The RJD’s decision to nominate the superstar came just one day after his official entry into the party. The high-profile political move was preceded by his wife, Chanda Yadav, also joining the RJD in Patna two days prior. Khesari Lal Yadav promptly filed his nomination papers before the election officer on Friday, positioning him as one of the most talked-about candidates this cycle.

Affidavit Reveals Rs24.81 Crore in Assets

As mandated by the Election Commission, the candidate’s filed affidavit details the substantial wealth amassed by one of Bhojpuri cinema’s most famous personalities.

According to the documents, Khesari Lal Yadav possesses total movable and immovable assets valued at Rs24.81 crore. This total is broken down as follows:

  • Movable Assets: Rs16.89 crore
  • Immovable Assets: Rs7.91 crore

The movable assets list includes Rs5 lakh in cash, gold jewellery worth Rs35 lakh, and a luxury car valued at Rs3 crore. Yadav has featured in nearly 100 films and has sung over 5,000 Bhojpuri songs, cementing his status as a major cultural icon in Bihar and Eastern Uttar Pradesh.

Wife’s Separate Holdings

The affidavit also includes the financial details of his wife, Chanda Yadav, who holds significant assets of her own:

  • Total Value: Rs7.39 crore (approx.)
  • Movable Assets: Rs90.02 lakh (including Rs2 lakh in cash)
  • Immovable Assets: Rs6.49 crore

The actor also mentioned that his father, Mangru Yadav, initially worked as a street vendor in the morning and a security guard at night—a narrative likely to be central to his campaign pitch to voters.
