Patna: Jyoti Singh, wife of Bhojpuri film star and politician Pawan Singh, has announced that she will contest the upcoming Bihar Assembly Elections as an independent candidate from the Karakat constituency. She is expected to file her nomination papers today.
The announcement was made through a social media post, where Jyoti Singh wrote, “Hello, the God-like people of Karakat. With your immense love and support, I am going to file my nomination from Karakat 213. This step is a voice of the people’s hopes and trust. Your support is my greatest strength. Let’s bring about a new change together.”
Soon after her post, social media erupted with reactions. While several users congratulated her, others mocked the decision. One user wrote, “What could happen to the people if it didn’t happen to my husband?” Another user, Shivam, commented, “The entire drama was staged for the election.”
Earlier, Jyoti had taken to Facebook to seek public opinion on whether she should contest the election.
Met Prashant Kishor Before Announcement
Amidst her ongoing dispute with husband Pawan Singh, Jyoti Singh met political strategist Prashant Kishor (PK) a few days ago at the Jansuraaj office. The two reportedly spoke privately for about 20 minutes. After the meeting, Jyoti clarified, “I haven’t come here to contest elections or seek a ticket. I just hope the injustice done to me doesn’t happen to any other woman.”
Inside the Pawan-Jyoti Dispute
The conflict between the Bhojpuri couple has been widely publicized over the past few weeks. On October 5, Jyoti visited Pawan Singh’s flat in Lucknow. Their meeting reportedly lasted about 90 minutes. Shortly after, police arrived at the location, leading to a major commotion.
Jyoti then shared a video on social media, crying and alleging harassment. She said, “Pawan ji has filed an FIR against me, and the police have come to take me. I am so distressed that I will end my life by consuming poison. Now, only my body will come out of this house.”
She accused Pawan Singh of abandoning her despite repeated pleas to reconcile. Jyoti alleged that Pawan used her for campaigning during the Lok Sabha elections and stayed in hotels with another woman.
Pawan Singh’s Response
In response, Pawan Singh posted on social media denying her allegations. “The public is like God to me. I will never hurt the people who gave me this position,” he wrote.
He further clarified that Jyoti had visited his home voluntarily and that police presence was only to prevent any untoward incident. “Family matters should stay within the room, not go on camera,” he said during a press conference on October 8.
The actor questioned the timing of her accusations, asking, “Why did you show affection just one month before the elections? How low can you stoop to become an MLA?”
Jyoti’s Counter-Claims
In a counter press conference, Jyoti Singh accused Pawan of repeated mental and physical abuse. She claimed that he forced her to take abortion pills multiple times. “A man who yearns for a child doesn’t do this. I am not here for drama but for justice,” she said.
She further stated that she was detained and mistreated in Lucknow and added, “If Pawan Singh accepts me as his wife, I will not contest the election.”
A Troubled Marriage
Jyoti Singh is Pawan Singh’s second wife. He first married Neelam Singh in 2014, who died by suicide a year later. Pawan married Jyoti on March 6, 2018, in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh. Their relationship soured soon after.
In 2021, Pawan filed for divorce in the Ara Family Court, and the case remains pending. During the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Jyoti had campaigned for Pawan when he contested independently from Karakat, suggesting a brief reconciliation. However, the relationship again deteriorated after the polls.
Now, as Jyoti Singh steps into the political arena independently from Karakat, the personal and political feud between the two continues to capture public attention—blurring the lines between politics and personal life in Bihar’s high-voltage election season.
