Heatwave Grips Bihar: 17 Districts Record Temperatures Above 40°C

Patna: Patna and several other districts in Bihar experienced scorching temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius on Saturday, with heatwave conditions officially declared in Sheikhpura, Jamui, and Banka. The Patna Meteorological Centre has issued a yellow warning, signaling hot day conditions in southern Bihar over the next two days, with heatwaves expected to persist in areas including Patna, Gaya, and Aurangabad.

Forecasts indicate a further rise in maximum temperatures by 2-3 degrees Celsius over the next 48 hours, exacerbating the already intense heatwave. SK Patel, a scientist at the Patna Meteorological Center, attributed the temperature surge to dry north-western winds from Rajasthan, low humidity levels, and intense sunlight. Winds are currently blowing at speeds of 25 kilometers per hour, intensifying the heatwave, which has persisted for three consecutive days. Patel warned that if wind speeds had remained constant, temperatures could have soared to 45 degrees Celsius.

Data released by the Meteorological Department reveals a divergence in weather patterns across Bihar. While temperatures soar in South Bihar, regions like Seemanchal and its surrounding areas experience a different climate. The absence of rising temperatures in Seemanchal and neighboring areas is attributed to a cyclonic circulation, providing some relief from the blistering heat.
