Darbhanga: Union Home Minister Amit Shah, addressing a rally in Alinagar, Darbhanga, on Wednesday, launched a fierce attack on the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Congress, accusing both parties of promoting dynastic politics. Speaking in support of BJP candidate Maithili Thakur, Shah hailed her nomination as a “major step against nepotism,” contrasting it with what he called the “family-first” politics of the opposition.
“We have given a ticket to 25-year-old Maithili Thakur, who has no political background. Can this happen in the Congress or the RJD?” Shah asked the cheering crowd. “These people only care about their sons and daughters. Sonia Gandhi wants Rahul Gandhi to be the Prime Minister. Lalu Prasad wants his son to be the Chief Minister,” he said. “But with Narendra Modi in Delhi and Nitish Kumar in Bihar, there are no vacancies right now.”
Shah turned his focus to Mithila’s culture and identity, invoking revered local figures such as Vidyapati and Sharda Sinha, and announcing two major projects — a grand Sita Maiya Temple worth Rs 850 crore and a cultural museum in Darbhanga with a Rs500 crore budget. He credited the Modi government for establishing the Makhana Board and recognizing Maithili in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.
Accusing the RJD and Congress of “decades of corruption,” Shah cited the fodder scam, the land-for-jobs scam, and alleged that Congress “committed scams worth Rs 12 lakh crore.” He also praised the Modi government for revoking Article 370, banning the Popular Front of India (PFI), and completing the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, remarking that “Ram Lalla had to live in a tent for 550 years because of these parties.”
Listing the NDA government’s development works in Darbhanga, Shah mentioned the AIIMS, Darbhanga Airport, Amas-Darbhanga Expressway, and the Western Kosi Canal Project. He also highlighted welfare measures, including free ration for 8.52 crore people, Ayushman Bharat health insurance worth Rs 5 lakh for 3.53 crore citizens, and Rs 10,000 each for 1.25 crore Jeevika Didis.
Concluding his speech, Shah urged voters to “reject dynastic politics” and “strengthen the hands of Narendra Modi and Nitish Kumar,” saying the NDA’s work represents both Vikas (development) and Virasat (heritage) for Bihar’s future.
