Patna/Darbhanga: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday launched a blistering attack on the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Congress, accusing them of bringing “lawlessness and shame” to Bihar. Addressing a rally in Patna’s Barh block, Singh said that Bihar’s development had been “put on hold” under previous governments, and only the NDA could “break that hold and restore dignity.”
“Earlier, there was a slogan — ‘No accounts, no ledgers, whatever Lalu says is right’. That won’t work anymore,” he said. “If even one child is kidnapped, the NDA government will act immediately. We don’t want jungle raj, we want development. Building the country is our responsibility, not building a family empire.”
Singh’s scheduled visit to Chapra was cancelled due to Cyclone Montha, but he earlier addressed a large gathering in Hayaghat, Darbhanga, where he accused the RJD of “defaming Bihar worldwide.” “The former Chief Minister had to spend years in jail — doesn’t that make every Bihari feel ashamed?” he asked, referring to Lalu Prasad’s conviction in corruption cases. “A person can compromise on many things in life, but not on self-respect.”
The Defence Minister praised the Nitish Kumar government for welfare initiatives aimed at women and the poor. “Recently, 7.5 million women were given Rs 10,000 each. Our government has opened doors for the poor, farmers, and women. This is the difference between NDA’s governance and RJD’s misrule,” he said.
Responding to Tejashwi Yadav’s statement threatening to “tear up” the Waqf Bill, Singh said, “When PM Modi sent money to people, he never checked whether the recipient was Hindu or Muslim. For him, every citizen is the same. No one can repeal a law passed by Parliament.”
He also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership on national security, referring to India’s airstrikes and surgical strikes against Pakistan. “After terrorists killed innocent people in Pahalgam based on their religion, our entire body burned with anger. Yet, we acted with restraint and targeted terror camps, not civilians,” he said. “India’s strength lies in its humanity — we don’t discriminate based on religion.”
Drawing a contrast between the NDA and Congress, Singh accused the previous UPA regime of corruption. “Half of the money from the Congress government went into the hands of the corrupt,” he said. “But PM Modi ensured that every rupee sent to the poor, farmers, and women now goes directly into their bank accounts. That’s the difference between clear intention and corruption.”
Singh concluded by asserting that Nitish Kumar and Narendra Modi’s leadership represents integrity and progress. “No one can question their intentions,” he said. “Bihar has seen what jungle raj looks like — now it’s time to vote for development, not disorder.”
