Patna: In a remarkable achievement, Patna Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) innovative project ‘Pink Innovation’ has been selected for presentation at the International Conference on Resilient Systems (ICRS 2026) to be held in Delft, the Netherlands, in March 2026. The project, titled “PINK Innovation by Patna Municipal Corporation Bihar India: to sustain WASH facility & achieve Sustainable Development Goals,” has been formally accepted by the ICRS 2026 organising committee.
The selection highlights Patna’s growing global reputation in sanitation, waste management, and sustainable urban innovation.

Under the Pink Innovation initiative, PMC has implemented several women-centric sanitation solutions aimed at ensuring dignity, inclusion, and sustainability.
Among its flagship initiatives are:
- Pink Toilets: Mobile vehicles converted into changing rooms and toilets to serve women during major public gatherings such as fairs and cultural events. Currently, eight Pink Toilets (four mobile units, two permanent structures, and two “Loo Cafés”) operate across Patna, providing women with safe and hygienic facilities.
- Pink Material Recovery Facility (MRF): Designed to enhance women’s participation in waste management, the centre facilitates waste segregation while creating formal livelihood opportunities for women.
These efforts align with the objectives of the Swachh Bharat Mission – Urban 2.0 and significantly contribute to India’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on sanitation, gender equality, and environmental sustainability.
Municipal Commissioner Yashpal Meena said, “It is a matter of pride for Patna Municipal Corporation. Our ‘Pink Innovation’ initiative has not only redefined sanitation in the city but also empowered women and strengthened our commitment to sustainable development. Representing India at Delft is a great honour.”
The Pink Innovation model is now being studied and replicated by several other urban local bodies across India as an example of inclusive and sustainable city governance.
