Katihar: A Police scandal has rocked Katihar after a video showing Barsoi police station chief misbehaving with a customer inside a local restaurant went viral on social media. The incident, which reportedly took place on 24 October, prompted Superintendent of Police (SP) Shikhar Chaudhary to take swift action and suspend the officer involved.
According to officials, the viral CCTV footage showed SHO Ramchandra Mandal engaging in a verbal altercation with a young man and woman seated at BR Eleven Restaurant, located at Ras Chowk in Barsoi. The officer allegedly used abusive language, drawing sharp criticism online and damaging the image of the police department.
The SP confirmed that the video was authentic and said the behaviour displayed by the SHO was “unprofessional and unbecoming of a police officer.” An internal inquiry led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) found Mandal guilty of misconduct.
“This behaviour reflects dereliction of duty and misuse of authority,” SP Chaudhary stated, adding that further disciplinary proceedings will follow.
Following the suspension, the SP appointed Sub-Inspector Rajkumar, currently posted at Manihari police station, to take additional charge of Barsoi police station.
