Bhabua: Nearly five years after the sensational daylight murder of Madhav Singh in Bhabua, the Special Judge of Producer Court-1 on Wednesday sentenced the main accused, Shaheen Rain, to life imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 under various sections of law.
According to Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) Udham Narayan Singh, the prosecution successfully proved its case based on strong witness testimonies and documentary evidence. “The court found the prosecution’s evidence credible and convicted Shaheen Rain. He has been sentenced to life imprisonment and fined Rs 50,000. In case of non-payment, he will have to undergo an additional three months of imprisonment,” Singh said.
The court also directed that a compensation amount of Rs 30,000 be paid to the wife of the deceased, taking into consideration the family’s suffering.
The murder, which took place on October 2, 2019, near the Shiva temple in Azad Nagar area of Bhabua city, had sent shockwaves across the district. Madhav Singh was shot dead in broad daylight, leading to widespread outrage and pressure on the police to act swiftly.
During the investigation, police identified Shaheen Rain and Vishnu Shankar Tiwari as the main accused in the case. While Shaheen Rain has now been convicted and sentenced, the trial against co-accused Vishnu Shankar Tiwari is still ongoing.
The verdict has brought a sense of closure and relief to the victim’s family, who had been waiting for justice for nearly five years.
