Patna: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expelled its Paru MLA, Ashok Singh, from the party for six years. The decision was taken on charges of anti-party activities after Singh decided to contest as an independent candidate in the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. This move is part of the BJP’s ongoing action against rebel leaders who have turned against the party ahead of the polls.
Ashok Singh, who represents the Paru constituency in Muzaffarpur, was reportedly upset after being denied a party ticket. The BJP had given the Paru seat to its National Democratic Alliance (NDA) ally, the Rashtriya Lok Samata Party (RLSP). Following the seat-sharing arrangement, the RLSP nominated Madan Sahni as its candidate from Paru. In protest, Singh filed his nomination as an independent, defying party orders.
Party leaders viewed his actions as a direct challenge to the organisation and its alliance strategy. The BJP state unit’s disciplinary committee said that contesting against the official NDA candidate amounts to “anti-party activity” and goes against the collective decision of the alliance. Taking a firm stand, the committee announced that Ashok Singh would be expelled from the BJP for six years.
The expulsion highlights the growing unrest within the BJP as several leaders express dissatisfaction over ticket distribution. With the Bihar Assembly elections approaching, the BJP leadership has made it clear that indiscipline will not be tolerated. By removing Ashok Singh, the party aims to send a message to other rebels that loyalty and unity are essential if the NDA hopes to perform strongly in the upcoming polls.
