Patna: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) candidate Bhai Virendra has been booked for allegedly threatening and abusing a police officer during polling in the Maner constituency on Thursday, in what authorities have described as a serious violation of the Model Code of Conduct.
According to police reports, the incident took place at booth numbers 79, 80, and 81, where an assistant sub-inspector was assisting an elderly voter. During the process, Bhai Virendra allegedly confronted the officer, leading to a heated argument.
The RJD candidate is accused of using casteist slurs, threatening to burn the officer, and accusing him of supporting a rival political party. The police have treated the episode as a cognisable offence and a breach of election regulations.
An FIR has been registered at the Maner police station based on the written complaint of the officer involved. Danapur Subdivisional Police Officer (SDPO) Amarendra Kumar Jha confirmed that an investigation is underway and that “necessary legal action has been initiated.”
