Patna: A shocking incident of robbery took place in Patna on Friday when two criminals on a motorcycle shot a bank manager and fled with Rs 10 lakh in cash. The incident happened near Zero Mile under the Ramakrishna Nagar police station area when the bank manager was on his way to deposit the money in Union Bank. The entire event was caught on CCTV cameras installed nearby.
According to reports, the victim, Avinash Kumar, works as the Branch Credit Manager (BCM) at Bharat Financial Inclusion Limited. He was travelling with his colleague Sunil Kumar to deposit the money when two unidentified men, wearing helmets, attacked them. Sunil was driving the bike, while Avinash was sitting behind him with the cash bag. Suddenly, the criminals came from behind on another motorcycle and tried to snatch the money. When Avinash resisted, one of them fired at him.
Sunil Kumar later told police that the first bullet missed, but the second shot hit Avinash’s right arm. “I was driving the bike as usual, and Avinash was carrying the cash. Two men came from behind, tried to take the bag, and opened fire,” he said. The criminals then grabbed the bag containing Rs 10 lakh and escaped towards Kankarbagh. Local people gathered at the spot after hearing the gunshot, and Avinash was immediately taken to Medanta Hospital, where he is now undergoing treatment.
Avinash Kumar, who lives in Biwi Ganj, Arrah, had been transferred to the Gayaghat branch of Bharat Financial Inclusion Limited about six months ago. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of employees who carry cash for official work. The daylight robbery has left residents shocked, as such daring attacks are becoming increasingly common in the city.
SDPO Ranjan Kumar confirmed that the police are working on the case. “Two men on a bike opened fire and robbed Rs 10 lakh from the Branch Credit Manager. We are examining CCTV footage to identify the attackers. Raids are being conducted in several areas to arrest them,” he said. Police believe the criminals might have been following the bank officials for some time before attacking them.
The incident has once again highlighted the need for better security arrangements for bank staff handling large amounts of cash. Police have advised banks to use secured vehicles or have armed guards during cash transfers to prevent such crimes in the future. The investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to trace the robbers at the earliest.
