Patna: As Bihar awaits the results of its 2025 assembly elections, an inflammatory statement by senior RJD leader Sunil Kumar Singh has ignited a political storm. Singh, a close aide of Lalu Prasad, warned that any “rigging” in the November 14 vote count would trigger scenes similar to those witnessed during political uprisings in Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
Both phases of polling have concluded, with a record turnout and tight security around strong rooms. But Singh claimed that “what happened in 2020 must not be repeated,” alleging that votes were manipulated in several constituencies five years ago. “If the administration attempts wrongdoing again, Bihar will be on the streets,” he said. “If our winning candidates are defeated through dishonesty, unimaginable violence will occur. No one will be able to control it.”
He further alleged that officers act “under pressure from tired and retired officials” and warned them not to “repeat the mistakes of 2020,” claiming he himself was “cheated” in ten seats including Hilsa.
The comments have drawn sharp criticism from the NDA. BJP spokesperson Neeraj Kumar said the opposition was “inventing excuses” in anticipation of defeat. “They know they have lost the confidence of the people of Bihar,” he said. “These threats are nothing but frustration. They want to blame the administration even before counting begins.”
Sunil Kumar Singh, who previously faced action for derogatory remarks against Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has a history of incendiary statements. His latest warning comes at a sensitive moment, with political tensions high and expectations building ahead of Friday’s results.
Counting is scheduled to begin at 8am on Friday across all 243 constituencies.
