Chhapra/Patna: A police sub-inspector in Bihar has been suspended after testing positive for alcohol consumption while on duty, in a case that has raised fresh questions over the enforcement of the state’s stringent prohibition laws.
Bihar has imposed complete prohibition, making both the sale and consumption of alcohol illegal. Yet police in Bhagwan Bazar, Chhapra, found that one of their own officers had violated the very law he was meant to uphold.
According to officials, a routine breathalyser test was conducted on Dial 112 personnel posted at the local police station. The alcohol level of Sub-Inspector Shivnarayan Sah, assigned to ERV-2, reportedly registered 23mg/100ml. His blood and urine samples were subsequently collected by a medical team and sent for forensic examination. A case has been lodged against him.
Saran SSP moved swiftly to suspend Sah, describing the incident as a serious breach of discipline and an affront to police work culture. Sah will receive only a subsistence allowance during the suspension period, and his headquarters has been shifted to the Saran police station.
