Patna: The Bharatiya Janata Party asserted its dominance in Bihar’s new NDA government on Thursday, taking 14 of the 26 ministerial berths despite allowing JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar to retain the chief ministership for a record tenth term. The swearing-in ceremony at Gandhi Maidan drew a powerful line-up of national leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP president J.P. Nadda.
The BJP’s presence in the new cabinet reflects the outcome of the assembly elections, where it emerged as the single largest party. Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha were sworn in as ministers and poised to be deputy CMs.
Other BJP leaders inducted into the cabinet include Mangal Pandey, Dilip Jaiswal, Nitin Nabin, Ramkripal Yadav, Sanjay Singh Tiger, Arun Shankar Prasad, Surendra Mehta, Narayan Prasad, Rama Nishad, Lakhendra Kumar Roshan, Shreyasi Singh and Pramod Kumar (Chandravanshi). Most of them are experienced ministers, with several having previously held key portfolios.

Mangal Pandey earlier headed the health department, while Nitin Nabin oversaw road construction. Dilip Jaiswal, who now serves as Bihar BJP president, has previously managed revenue and land reforms. Among the newer political faces, Shreyasi Singh — a Commonwealth Games gold medallist and international shooting champion — continues her rise within the party’s ranks.
The ceremony was marked by a celebratory atmosphere as the NDA returned to power with 202 of 243 seats. After the oath-taking, PM Modi greeted the crowd, waving his signature scarf in acknowledgment of the coalition’s emphatic victory.
