Patna: December is expected to bring a long-awaited change for residents of Patna’s Gardanibagh area, where piped natural gas (PNG) supply to households is finally set to begin. After months of work, GAIL India has confirmed that the pipeline network is in its final stages of testing and will be commissioned within the scheduled timeframe.
Officials said that nearly the entire main pipeline infrastructure has been laid, while household connections and safety inspections are progressing rapidly. Engineers added that supply will commence once all safety standards receive formal clearance.
The introduction of PNG will end the dependence on cylinder booking, refill delays and doorstep delivery. Experts say PNG is not only safer but also more economical, offering households a cheaper and more reliable fuel option.
A senior official of GAIL India in Bihar, said two District Regulating Stations (DRS) have been installed to support uninterrupted PNG supply. One station has been set up in Gardanibagh and the other in Mithapur near the bypass. Both are connected to the Beur line, ensuring steady flow to the network.
These stations will “charge” the PNG grid in Kachi Talab, Road Nos 15 and 16, the area behind Bapu Tower, the MLA residence and several adjoining localities. Work on individual household connections is advancing quickly, and most pipelines are currently in the testing phase.
According to GAIL India, about 46,000 consumers in Patna have registered for PNG connections so far, with 26,000 households already connected. The company aims to extend the network to more neighbourhoods in the coming months.
Officials believe the launch in December will mark a significant step towards cleaner, safer and more convenient energy use in the capital.
