Sitamarhi: A sudden fire at Sitamarhi Junction on Friday afternoon caused panic among passengers and others present at the railway station. The incident occurred when a pile of old wires kept in a corner of the station unexpectedly caught fire. Within minutes, thick black smoke rose high into the sky and spread across the station premises, making people fear a major incident had taken place.
Passengers rushed towards exits and open areas as heavy smoke filled the platforms. In the early moments, no one could understand the source of the fire, and the confusion led to more panic among travellers. Some passengers experienced difficulty breathing as the smoke temporarily covered the station area. Fortunately, no injuries were reported and the fire did not cause widespread damage.
Locals said the exact cause of the fire is still unclear, though it is suspected that a burning object might have been carelessly thrown into the pile of wires. Because the wires were dry and stored for a long time, the flames spread quickly and the smoke became denser, creating chaos in the station area. The situation alarmed passengers who had no idea what had triggered the sudden fire.
The station administration contacted the fire department immediately after noticing the smoke. A fire brigade team arrived promptly and brought the flames under control before they could spread further. The fire remained confined to the pile of scrap wires, preventing a major disaster. After the incident, station officials inspected the safety arrangements and instructed staff to remove old and unused items from the premises to avoid similar accidents in the future. An investigation is ongoing to determine the exact reason behind the fire.
