Patna: An early morning search operation was carried out at Patna’s Beur Jail on Saturday, led by senior district police officials, amid concerns that recent violent crimes in the region may have connections to inmates inside the high-security prison.
A large police contingent entered the facility at around 5am, with prisoners held inside their respective wards while teams searched multiple sections of the jail. The operation was supervised by City SP East, City SP Central and the Additional District Magistrate.
The raid comes against the backdrop of increased scrutiny of Beur Jail, which officials believe may be linked to a number of major criminal cases in Patna and nearby districts. Police sources say several incidents, including murder, robbery and dacoity, are suspected to have been coordinated from inside the prison. As a result, authorities have stepped up monitoring and carried out repeated search operations in recent months.
Details of any seizures or arrests were not immediately released. The search was still in progress at the time of reporting, with heavy security maintained around the premises.
City Superintendent of Police (East) said that full information regarding recoveries and subsequent action would be shared once the operation concludes.
