Patna: Cloudy weather and morning fog are likely to continue across Bihar for the next two days as the outer effects of Cyclone Ditwah reach the state, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Sunday. While the cyclone is currently threatening coastal regions in South India, its influence on Bihar will remain limited, officials clarified.
No rainfall or drastic temperature changes are expected in the immediate future. On Sunday morning, dense fog was reported in over 10 cities including Patna, Bettiah and Gopalganj, affecting visibility during early hours.
Kishanganj recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 12.6°C in the past 24 hours. Aurangabad, which had been consistently the coldest district for the last three days, reported a minimum of 13.1°C.
Weather experts said the maximum temperature in most parts of the state remains around 0.9°C below normal, while the minimum temperature continues to stay 2-3°C above normal. Because of this imbalance, there is no immediate sign of a sharp rise in cold conditions during morning and night.
The dense fog forced residents in many districts to light fires to stay warm, indicating a gradual shift toward peak winter. Bettiah and other areas also witnessed early morning haze.
Major weather change ahead
Meteorologists forecast that a notable drop in temperatures is expected from the second week of December as stronger westerly winds begin to dominate the region. Between December 7 and 9, the minimum temperature could fall sharply to around 10°C, increasing the intensity of winter across Bihar.
No major rainfall concern
IMD scientists reiterated that Cyclone Ditwah’s impact in Bihar will remain confined to the upper atmosphere, without any threat of strong winds or heavy rainfall. Cloudy skies will prevail for the next 48 hours.
Patna outlook
In the state capital, partly cloudy conditions will continue for two days. A slight nip will be felt during mornings and evenings, while daytime temperatures are expected to stay around 27–28°C. Light fog may occur due to mild humidity. After December 5, a gradual decline in temperature will mark a more noticeable winter chill in Patna.
Officials advised people to remain cautious during foggy hours, especially while driving, even as the overall weather remains stable in the coming days.
