Patna: Patna witnessed a green initiative on Tuesday as Xavier University celebrated National Pollution Control Day. The Eco Mitra Club, in collaboration with the Xavier Art Club, organised activities to spread awareness about pollution, promote sustainability, and encourage students to take care of the environment. The university aimed to teach students the importance of protecting nature and inspire them to adopt eco-friendly habits.
The day began with a tree plantation drive in front of the university building at 11:40 a.m. Students and faculty members participated enthusiastically, planting saplings to promote greenery on campus. The drive was intended to show the importance of trees in reducing pollution and maintaining a healthy environment. Participants said such activities remind everyone that even small efforts can help in protecting the planet.
After the plantation drive, a “Best Out of Waste” competition was held at the main entrance of the university. Students from various faculties created useful and creative items from discarded materials. The competition encouraged recycling and waste management, showing how waste can be transformed into valuable products. Kavita Kumari, Supriya Kumari, and Lavanya Kumar Singh from the School of Commerce won the competition for their innovative ideas.
The event was organised under the guidance of Arindam Roy, Chair of the Eco Mitra Club, and Priya Gupta, Mentor of the Xavier Art Club, with special support from Dr. Rakesh Kumar Pathak, Dean of Activities. The Vice Chancellor, Rev. Father (Dr.) Martin Porras, S.J., extended his best wishes for the programme. Through these initiatives, Xavier University demonstrated its commitment to environmental protection and inspired students to take an active role in maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
