Patna: Patna’s Jayprakash Narayan International Airport is set for a major expansion of passenger facilities as three new aerobridges are expected to become operational by December 31, airport authorities have said. The airport currently operates two aerobridges, and once all five are in service, officials expect a significant improvement in passenger flow and aircraft handling.
The second aerobridge was commissioned on November 15, and construction on the remaining three has accelerated in recent weeks. Two of them are now in the final stages, with construction teams and technical experts carrying out routine inspections to ensure all safety standards are met.
Officials at Patna airport claimed the project was on track to meet the year-end deadline. “The work is in its final stages. Once these aerobridges are operational, boarding, disembarkation and aircraft parking will become more streamlined,” an official said.
Officials noted that passenger numbers at Patna Airport have been rising steadily, strengthening the case for modern upgrades. The addition of new aerobridges is expected to reduce congestion on the tarmac and offer travellers a more seamless experience, particularly during peak hours.
Airport authorities say the ongoing expansion forms part of broader efforts to bring Patna’s airport infrastructure closer to that of major metropolitan hubs. Once complete, the upgraded facility will be better equipped to manage increasing regional and national flight operations.
