Patna: Patna Municipal Corporation held a major awareness rally on Tuesday to highlight the rising threat of single-use plastic in the city. The campaign focused on the theme of the “Plastic Monster” to show how plastic waste is becoming a danger to the environment, human health and future generations. The rally aimed to encourage people to reduce plastic use in daily life and adopt safer and more eco-friendly habits.
The rally was held in busy commercial areas, including Wards 2 and 5 of the Pataliputra Zone and the Chitkohra Bazaar area of Ward 12 in the Nutan Rajdhani Zone. Sanitation inspectors, supervisors and the IEC team of Patna Municipal Corporation actively participated in the campaign. They spoke directly with shopkeepers, customers and local residents, requesting them to avoid single-use plastic and follow proper waste management rules. Citizens were urged to use cloth and jute bags instead of plastic bags and contribute to making Patna plastic-free.
One of the key highlights of the campaign was the symbolic “Plastic Monster,” created to visually represent the harmful effects of plastic on daily life. The Plastic Monster served as a warning, showing how plastic pollution can lead to environmental damage, diseases and an unhealthy future if people continue using disposable plastic products without control. This creative approach captured the attention of passers-by and helped spread the message more effectively.
The rally ended with a strong message that protecting the environment is a shared responsibility. Patna Municipal Corporation emphasised that reducing plastic use is not only the duty of the government but also of every citizen. By making small changes—such as reusing bags, recycling waste and avoiding disposable items—people can contribute to a cleaner and safer Patna. The corporation plans to continue similar awareness drives to ensure long-term positive change in public behaviour.
