Patna: Bihar’s Governor, Arif Mohammad Khan, has announced that women who received Rs 10,000 under the Chief Minister’s Women Employment Scheme will be eligible for additional support of up to Rs 2 lakh if their employment improves. The scheme, originally launched by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s previous government ahead of the assembly elections, aims to empower women through financial and employment assistance.
Khan made the announcement while addressing a joint session of the 18th Bihar Legislative Assembly on Wednesday. The address followed the swearing-in of newly elected members and the election of the Speaker earlier in the week. The legislative session, which includes both the Assembly and the Council, is scheduled to conclude on Friday after three days of proceedings.
In his 30-minute speech, the Governor reviewed the government’s past achievements and outlined plans for the coming years. He emphasised initiatives to generate employment for 10 million young people over the next five years, describing it as a key promise of the Nitish-led NDA government. Khan also highlighted plans to install solar panels on the rooftops of all willing residents, describing these measures as part of a broader principle of “development with justice.”
Earlier on Wednesday, Governor Khan and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar paid tribute to India’s first President, Rajendra Prasad, on his 141st birth anniversary. The ceremony at Rajendra Chowk included the laying of wreaths and the distribution of sarees to women spinning charkhas at the Swadeshi Kambal Ashram. The officials later visited Rajendra Prasad’s samadhi at Rajendra Ghat, offering floral tributes to the former President.
