Patna: Air India has announced a major benefit for students in Bihar, offering discounted air travel and additional facilities under a new agreement with the Ministry of Education. The move is aimed at encouraging more schools to create Apaar Cards for their students, which store education records digitally. The airline said this initiative would help make travel easier and more affordable for young people across the state.
According to the announcement, students from Bihar will get a 10% discount on every domestic flight ticket they book with Air India. They will also be allowed to carry 10 kg of extra baggage, meaning they can now take 25 kg instead of the usual 15 kg. In addition, students will be allowed to change their travel date once without paying any extra fee. Air India said these benefits would apply to all students aged 12 to 30 who already have an Apaar Card.
The Ministry of Education said the aim of linking the travel benefits to Apaar Cards is to promote their use across the country. Nearly 6.3 million students in Bihar have already been issued these cards and linked them to DigiLocker. To get the travel discount, students will simply need to enter their Apaar number on the Air India website while booking a ticket. The airline said the offer is part of its effort to support students in education, skill development and travel.
Air India’s Chief Commercial Officer, Nipun Aggarwal, said the scheme would help young travellers explore new opportunities. He said the airline wanted to make full-service flying more accessible and rewarding for students. Officials added that Apaar Cards will not only help students with travel discounts but also make academic verification easier, prevent document fraud and allow access to all education records with a single click.
