Patna: A doctor from Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) narrowly escaped a life-threatening incident on Wednesday when his car suddenly caught fire near the hospital. Dr Saurav Kumar, an orthopaedic specialist, was on his way home to Boring Road when he noticed a strong burning smell the moment he started the vehicle. Realising something was wrong, he quickly stepped out. Within seconds, the car burst into flames.
Early reports suggest that diesel was leaking from the vehicle, which may have caused the fire as soon as the engine was switched on. The incident occurred on the JP Ganga Path elevated road, close to the PMCH complex. Thick black smoke rose nearly 30 feet high, spreading across the area and briefly covering parts of the hospital building.
The sudden fire created panic on the road. Traffic on the Ganga Pathway was blocked for nearly three kilometres as drivers halted to avoid the burning car. Fire brigade teams were informed immediately and arrived at the scene to extinguish the flames. Their quick response helped prevent the blaze from spreading further.
A Creta car with an Indian government logo was parked behind the burning vehicle and was also at risk. To save it, guards broke the window, shifted the gear and pushed it backwards. Their quick action prevented more vehicles from catching fire and averted a much larger accident.
