Patna: A builder in Patna has reported receiving a death threat and a demand for Rs 5 crore in ransom from a suspected criminal gang, prompting a police investigation.
Anupam Kumar, who runs GenX Infra Homes Private Limited in Danapur, filed a complaint with Rupaspur police station on 6 December after he was allegedly threatened over the phone. Kumar said the caller warned he would be murdered “like Deepak Mahato” if he refused to pay.
According to the complaint, Kumar, a resident of Jalalpur City in Rupaspur, received the threatening call on the night of December 4. The caller identified himself as Lali Singh, also known as Ved Nidhi, and asked whether Kumar was in the process of purchasing land on the Rupaspur Canal from a man named Vivek from Shahpur. When Kumar confirmed this, he was allegedly told to pay Rs 5 crore or transfer the land title to the caller.
Kumar said the criminal threatened to kill him near his home in the same manner that Mahato—a local figure whose recent death has gained attention—was murdered. Police say they have registered a case and begun an inquiry.
Station House Officer Shashi Bhushan Kumar confirmed that the complaint names Lali Singh as the prime suspect. “The matter is under investigation,” he said.
