Munger: The Jamalpur Railway Factory in Bihar, known for its long history of engineering excellence, has once again created something remarkable. The factory has finalised a newly modified heavy-duty jack made with completely upgraded technology. This new jack is designed not only to support the needs of the Indian Railways but also to serve large industrial companies across the country. Engineers believe that by 2025, the jack will prove even more effective and reliable than earlier models.
According to technicians, the new jack is actually a set of four jacks, each with a lifting capacity of 35 tons. Together, they can lift around 140 tons, making it extremely useful for raising railway engines, coaches and heavy industrial machines. Several improvements have been made, including a better wheel system for easier movement and electrical modifications that simplify operations. Traditional jacks required significant physical effort, but the upgraded version reduces that difficulty and increases safety.
Jamalpur has been manufacturing jacks since 1962 and remains the only factory in India that produces them on such a large scale. Over the decades, it has built a strong reputation for dependable quality. As a result, Jamalpur-made jacks are now in demand across India and abroad. More than 10,000 units have already been supplied to railway factories, steel plants, NTPC, WEL and even countries like Myanmar and Burma. Officials say the consistent design and sturdy build continue to attract new orders every year.
The estimated cost of each jack is around Rs 50 lakh, and the workshop aims to produce nearly 500 units annually. With new technology, rising demand and an expanding industrial market, the Jamalpur Workshop is expected to play an even more significant role in supporting the country’s railway and industrial growth. Bihar’s engineering strength is once again being recognised on a global scale.
