Banka: A woman in Bihar has been struggling to correct a serious error after officials wrongly declared her dead and stopped her pension. When she approached Block Development Officer (BDO) Anjesh Kumar, she pleaded, “Sir, I am alive… our pension has been stopped by declaring us dead. What will we eat?” Her words reflect the fear and uncertainty she has been living with since losing her only source of support.
The woman, Chudki Tudu from Chandan village, said she was given a computer-generated document stating that she had been marked dead during an official verification. The mistake has raised concerns about how such investigations are conducted and how easily a poor woman can vanish from government records without proper checks.
Tudu explained that she survives entirely on her pension and government ration. But the shock deepened when the ration shop owner told her she was no longer eligible because she was listed as dead. “You are dead, so your ration and pension have been stopped,” she was told. Distressed, she kept telling villagers that although she is alive, a government error had “killed” her on paper, leaving her without food or income.
BDO Anjesh Kumar has said the matter will be investigated and that her benefits will be restored soon. He added that the administration will find out who made the mistake. The incident has highlighted the severe impact of bureaucratic errors on vulnerable people who depend entirely on government support to survive.
