Patna: Cold winds continued to tighten their grip across Bihar on Wednesday, though the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said a full-fledged cold wave is not expected yet. Light fog and chilly winds marked the morning hours, but sunshine is likely to keep daytime conditions normal.
The drop in minimum temperatures over the past 24 hours has increased the morning and night chill across the state. Dense fog was reported from more than 10 districts, including Patna, Gopalganj, Bettiah and Bagaha, disrupting early movement. Residents in several areas were seen gathering around bonfires to beat the cold.
Patna recorded a minimum temperature of 12.6°C, around 1.1°C below normal. Buxar remained the coldest district with a minimum of 8.1°C, the lowest temperature in the state.
Patna Schools to Start After 8:30 AM
In view of the increasing cold, Patna District Magistrate Dr. Thyagarajan S.M. has revised school timings. No school will function before 8:30 AM, and the order is effective from today.
Minimum Temperatures Continue to Fall
According to IMD data recorded on December 10, minimum temperatures have dipped across most districts. While Buxar was the coldest at 8.1°C, a slight rise in temperatures was noted in Motihari, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur (Sabour), Munger and Kishanganj.
The IMD has not issued any weather warning for the coming days. There is no forecast of rain, though fog may range from light to moderate. The department said the cold will intensify gradually, with South Bihar expected to feel lower temperatures compared to North Bihar.
