Patna: Mokama MLA Anant Singh has once again attracted attention, though this time for his new accommodation rather than his political style. The Bihar government has allotted Singh a duplex flat on Veerchand Patel Path in Patna, marked as flat number 8/11, with “Mokama” and “Assembly Constituency No. 178” displayed outside.
The allocation has sparked questions over whether Singh will vacate his sprawling old bungalow on Mall Road, which is widely known for hosting large-scale election celebrations. Reports suggest the new duplex is considerably smaller than his previous residence.
According to a letter issued by the Building Construction Department, each outgoing MLA was offered a duplex, with one of these flats now assigned to Singh. Until recently, the duplex was occupied by National Conference MLC Sunil Singh.
The change has raised practical concerns for the Mokama legislator, who is known for his fondness for horses and his collection of luxury vehicles. Singh’s old Mall Road bungalow included stables and ample parking space, accommodating both his animals and cars. In contrast, the new flat can accommodate only one vehicle and lacks facilities for horses or cows.
Singh, who was first allotted the Mall Road bungalow in 2005 after becoming an MLA, is currently in jail, adding another layer to the debate over the future use of his properties.
Observers note that the new allocation may force Singh to reconsider the management of his horses and vehicles, given the constraints of the smaller duplex.
