Patna: Teachers working in primary, secondary and higher secondary schools across Bihar are set to receive major relief, as the state education department has announced that promotions and payment of outstanding salaries will begin from January. After years of delays and uncertainty, the decision is expected to benefit a large number of teachers who have been waiting for career growth and financial stability. Officials said the move is aimed at improving morale among teachers and strengthening the school education system in the state.
The Directorate of Primary Education and the Directorate of Secondary Education have already started the process to grant promotions. A proper timetable is being prepared so that promotion cases are completed on time without unnecessary delays. District authorities have been given clear instructions regarding continuity of service, which is an important condition for promotions. The education department has also directed officials to ensure that all due benefits related to promotions are provided to teachers without discrimination.
Along with promotions, the government has ordered immediate payment of salary arrears wherever they are pending. In several districts, teachers have not yet received arrears linked to salary protection, and officials have now been asked to release these payments without delay. Special teachers who were given salary protection will also receive their arrears from the date they joined service. This step is expected to address long-standing complaints and bring financial relief to many educators.
The education department has also announced teacher rationalisation based on the student-teacher ratio. Teachers working in schools with surplus staff will be transferred to schools where there is a shortage of teachers. This process has been marked as a priority for all districts. In addition, training of support staff at the district level will be conducted on every working day. As part of this training, school clerks will be required to improve basic skills by writing at least five pages by hand daily and practising computer use and typing, with the aim of making school administration more efficient and organised.
