Patna: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has expressed deep condolences over the deaths of two Bihar residents in a fire incident at a multi-storey building in Kuwait. Terming the incident as extremely tragic, Nitish conveyed his heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families.
According to a statement released by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) on Friday, Nitish has instructed the Resident Commissioner of Bihar in New Delhi to liaise with the Kuwait Embassy. Efforts are being made to ensure the repatriation of the bodies to their native places in Bihar.
In a gesture of support, the Chief Minister has announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh each to the closest dependents of the deceased from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
The fire, which broke out on Wednesday in Mangaf city, Kuwait, claimed the lives of 49 individuals and injured over 50 others. Among the deceased was Kalu Khan, a 28-year-old man from Nainaghat, Darbhanga. Kalu Khan had been employed as a salesman at an NBTC Supermarket in Kuwait for the past two years. Tragically, he last spoke to his family on Tuesday night, and by Thursday evening, the NBTC HR department informed his brother, Sarfaraz, of Kalu’s demise.
Kalu’s mother, Madina Khatun, shared her sorrow, noting that her son was the family’s sole breadwinner and was due to return home next month for his wedding in Nepal.
