Bhojpur: As the year 2025 comes to an end and people prepare to welcome New Year 2026, families across Bihar are looking for peaceful and joyful places to spend time together. Many usually plan trips to hill stations or beaches outside the state, but a beautiful spot closer to home is drawing growing attention. Mahuli Ganga Ghat, located in the Barhara block, is becoming a popular New Year destination because of its natural beauty and calm atmosphere. Visitors often compare its white sand and open river views to Mumbai’s famous Juhu beach.
During winter mornings and afternoons, Mahuli Ganga Ghat offers a soothing and refreshing experience. The ghat is also important for religious and cultural reasons. Bihar’s first surface water supply centre is located here, and its large structure attracts many visitors. Nearby is the meditation place of Mata Sati Kunwari Manoratha Dasi, where devotees come for darshan and spiritual peace. Just ten kilometres away is the birthplace of freedom fighter Jayaprakash Narayan. Tourists reach this place by boat or pontoon bridge, and the museum and library there offer a glimpse into India’s freedom movement, making the trip both educational and enjoyable.
Several well-known religious sites are located close to Mahuli Ganga Ghat, adding to its importance during the New Year. The Sriranganath Ji Temple in Gundi, about twelve kilometres away, is famous for its South Indian-style architecture. The Maa Kali Temple in Bakhorapur, around fifteen kilometres away, sees a large crowd of devotees on New Year’s Day. Ami Dham in Chapra district, nearly thirty kilometres away, and the Thawe Mata Temple in Gopalganj district, about sixty kilometres away, also attract thousands of worshippers at the start of the year.
As New Year approaches, a large crowd is expected once again at Mahuli Ganga Ghat. The combination of white sand, flowing river, nearby temples and open natural surroundings makes it the most popular picnic and holiday spot in the area. For many people, celebrating the New Year at Mahuli Ghat is a simple and meaningful way to begin the year with nature, faith and togetherness.
