Patna: Bihar is set to get a new training centre for canoeing, kayaking and rowing at the Karamchand Dam in Rohtas, the Bihar State Sports Authority (BSSA) has announced.
Ravindran Shankaran, Director General of the BSSA, said a team of international experts recently inspected the site to assess its suitability. The team was led by Canadian Olympian Jack, alongside chief coach Pradeep Naidu and international player Namita. They were joined by BSSA coach Sudhanshu Kumar, district sports officer Vinay Prasad, and other officials from the state sports department.
“The experts found the location ideal for water sports and recommended developing it into a Centre of Excellence,” Shankaran said. “Based on their positive feedback, work on establishing the training centre is expected to begin soon.”
The initiative follows talks between Bihar’s Sports Minister Shreyasi Singh and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, aimed at strengthening cooperation in sports development. The meeting also included Madhya Pradesh Minister Vishwas Kailash Sarangi and a team of sports advisors. An agreement was reached to provide technical and logistical support for the promotion of water sports in Bihar.
Prashant Kushwaha, President of the Indian Canoeing and Kayaking Federation, sent a team of experts from Bhopal to conduct the inspection of Rohtas Dam. The centre is expected to serve as a hub for training athletes and nurturing talent in canoeing, kayaking, and rowing across the region.
