Patna: The Bihar government has promoted senior Indian Police Service officer Kundan Krishnan to the rank of director general, marking a significant change in the state’s police leadership as part of a broader promotion exercise.
Krishnan, a 1994-batch IPS officer, was serving as additional director general at police headquarters before his elevation. He is also in charge of the Special Task Force (STF), a key unit tasked with tackling organised crime in the state. Officials said the promotion reflects his seniority and current responsibilities within the police administration.
The officer is widely regarded as an influential figure within the Bihar police establishment and has held several sensitive assignments. In the period leading up to the elections, he was entrusted with the additional responsibility of heading police headquarters, a role seen as crucial for coordination and strategic planning.
As part of the same promotion exercise, 22 IPS officers from the 2012 batch have been elevated to the rank of deputy inspector general (DIG).
