Samastipur: Rupak Sahni, a 30-year-old BJP booth president, was shot dead by gunmen on motorcycles in Samastipur district on Wednesday evening, sparking tension in the area.
The attack occurred near Shadipur Ghat in the Khanpur police station jurisdiction, where Sahni was walking outside his home. Witnesses reported that four men on two motorcycles opened fire, striking Sahni multiple times. He was rushed to Khanpur Primary Health Center, where doctors declared him dead.
Dr R.N. Singh, in-charge medical officer at the PHC, confirmed that Sahni had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, with the exact number to be determined in the post-mortem report. Sahni’s brother, Deepak Sahni, is the media in-charge of the local BJP block committee. Family members said Rupak had longstanding disputes with certain individuals in the village.
Following the incident, police launched an investigation, and SP Arvind Pratap Singh inspected the crime scene late Wednesday. Khanpur Station House Officer Ranjit Kumar Chaudhary was suspended for negligence, with authorities stressing that laxity in crime control would not be tolerated.
Police have arrested two suspects so far and said the murder appears to be linked to an old dispute. Sadar DSP-2 Sanjay Kumar stated that three special teams have been formed to apprehend the remaining accused, and additional police forces have been deployed in the village to maintain order. The investigation is ongoing.
