Patna: A senior traffic officer was injured on Friday after a vehicle in Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s convoy struck him during an inspection visit to Patna City.
The episode occurred near the Didarganj market committee area, close to the Prakash Punj memorial, where the chief minister was reviewing preparations for the ongoing Prakash Parv celebrations marking the birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh Maharaj. Nitish had stopped to inspect a newly constructed watchtower when the incident took place.
According to officials, a Scorpio vehicle in the convoy was being reversed when the driver failed to notice a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) from the traffic wing standing behind it. The vehicle hit the officer, knocking him to the ground and briefly triggering confusion at the site.

Police personnel stationed nearby reacted swiftly, signalling the driver to stop and rushing to assist the injured officer. Eyewitnesses said the quick response prevented the situation from escalating into a more serious accident.
The DSP was helped to his feet and did not suffer life-threatening injuries, officials said. However, the incident has raised concerns about coordination and safety protocols within the chief minister’s security convoy, particularly during crowded inspection visits linked to major public events.
No official statement has yet been issued on whether an internal review of convoy movement procedures will follow.
