Patna: The Bihar government has taken an important step to make land-related work easier for common people. From January 1 the state will completely stop giving paper copies of land and revenue documents. All verified land records will instead be made available online with digital signatures. These digital copies will be treated as legally valid, just like verified paper copies, and can be used for all official purposes.
At present, people have to follow a long and tiring process to get land records. They need to apply at government offices, pay stamp duty and visit circle offices or district archives many times. This process usually takes seven to 14 days and causes problems, especially for people living in villages. Many people lose working days and spend extra money just to get one document. The new online system aims to remove these difficulties completely.
The decision has been shared through an official letter issued by Jai Singh, secretary of the Revenue and Land Reforms Department. The letter has been sent to all divisional commissioners, district magistrates, archive officers and circle officers. It clearly states that from 2026, only digitally signed copies of revenue records will be issued. People will no longer need to visit offices to get verified copies of land documents.
The government says this change will save time, money and effort for the public and make the system more transparent. If any document is not available on the land records portal, people can apply for it online, and a digitally signed copy will be uploaded once ready. Officials have been asked to spread awareness so that everyone understands the new system in advance. Citizens have also been advised to use the online platform instead of visiting offices after January 1.
