Patna: Patna police have announced heightened security and traffic management measures across the city ahead of New Year celebrations, with authorities warning of possible route diversions and strict enforcement of traffic rules.
The city’s senior superintendent of police, Kartikeya Sharma, said police were preparing for large crowds expected at popular public spaces such as Capital Park, the Patna zoo and other parks, as well as religious sites including the Mahavir Temple, gurdwaras, temples and churches. Additional deployments have been planned to manage both safety and congestion.
Several areas have been designated as no-parking zones to ensure smooth traffic movement, Sharma said, adding that route diversions would be implemented where necessary. Barricades will be placed at major crowd points to prevent illegal parking, and volunteers from social organisations have been roped in to assist with crowd management.
Police will also maintain close surveillance on groups of motorcyclists and take strict action against violations, including stunt riding and reckless driving. Sharma said action had already been taken against youths involved in dangerous driving along stretches such as Marine Drive.
Boat services on the Ganges will be permitted only in compliance with prescribed safety norms, with operators required to follow all regulations, police said.
Addressing women’s safety, Sharma said the Shakti Suraksha Dal, a dedicated women’s safety team, would remain active to respond to cases of harassment or inappropriate behaviour. He urged women and girls to report incidents immediately and assured them of prompt police support.
