Patna: The East Champaran district of Bihar is set to become a key transit hub with the upcoming Ram-Janki Corridor, a 127-kilometre route linking Lord Rama’s birthplace in Ayodhya to Goddess Sita’s birthplace in Janakpur, Nepal. The corridor will pass through 40 villages across East Champaran, Gopalganj, Shivhar, and Sitamarhi districts, according to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
Alignment Approved and Construction Plans
Following the approval of the road alignment, a consultant has been tasked with preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the project. Construction is expected to begin in 2026, with a four-lane highway planned for roughly 240 kilometres from Ayodhya to the Sitamarhi-Nepal border. The corridor will pass through key locations including Mashrakh, Chakia, Shivhar, Sitamarhi, Bhithamore, and the NH 27A and NH 227 routes.
Boosting Tourism and Local Employment
The corridor is expected to stimulate both tourism and employment in the region, particularly by improving access to the world’s largest Ramayana temple in Kaithwalia, Kesariya. It will also provide convenient access to the Virat Ramayana Temple, attracting pilgrims and tourists travelling between Ayodhya and Janakpur.
Villages Along the East Champaran Route
A government letter issued by Kamlesh Kumar Singh, Director of the Revenue and Land Reforms Department, identified the District Land Acquisition Officer as the competent authority for land acquisition along the corridor. In East Champaran, the route will pass through villages in Kesariya block such as Dhekahan, Sundarpur One and Two, Tajpur Patkhaulia, Manohar Chhapra, Khapraj, Kesariya, Padman Chhapra, Hamidpur East, Phaltakiya, and Baishakhwa.
Other villages in Kalyanpur and Chakia blocks include Rajpur, Bahuara Harivansh, Math Govardhan, Siswa Narsingh, Kaithwalia, Basudev Chhapra, Bali Belwa, Dhruv Pakri, Chhapra Vel, Pakridikshit, Hanuman Nagar, and Vrindavan Three, Four, and Five, among others. Madhuban block will see the corridor pass through Khodadpur, Koilhara, Harnarayanpur, Madhuban Tola Koilhara, Madhuban Tola Dihu, Madhuban, Madhuban Tola Gangapur, Wajidpur, Punar Murdachak, Dubaha Dostia, Hardiya, and Kishunkara. The route will then proceed through Dumri Kadsahari into Shivhar.
