Muzaffarpur/Patna: A woman in Muzaffarpur has approached the state and national human rights commissions after police allegedly refused to register her complaint of sexual exploitation, blackmail, and threats to her life.
The woman, from the Maniyari police station area, alleges that a man from a neighbouring village exploited her for nearly five years, threatening to leak intimate videos and coercing her into sexual encounters. She further claims that the accused extorted Rs. 2 lakh from her family and has demanded more money.
According to the complaint, the matter was informally taken to a local panchayat, which suggested that the two be married. The woman alleges that the accused and his family later rejected the settlement and even attempted to harm her.
On December 14, the woman says the accused and his relatives came to her home at night and issued threats, leaving her family “terrified”. She states that she has submitted written complaints to the police station and senior district officials, but an FIR has not been registered.
Human rights advocate S.K. Jha confirmed that the case has been escalated to the commissions, calling the allegations “serious” and questioning the police’s conduct. “The denial of an FIR in such circumstances raises pressing concerns about due process and the protection of victims,” he told local media.
Police officials have not issued a formal response, and the accused could not be reached for comment.
