Patna: Indian Railways will offer a 3% discount on unreserved tickets booked through its RailOne mobile application, as part of efforts to encourage passengers to shift from cash transactions to digital ticketing.
The concession will apply to bookings made between January 14 and July 14, 2026 and will be available on all digital payment modes, including UPI, debit and credit cards, and net banking. Railways officials said the discount would be applied directly at the time of booking.
Passengers using the RailOne app can also continue to avail themselves of a separate 3% cashback offered through the R-Wallet payment option, ensuring financial incentives across digital payment methods.
Saraswati Chandra, chief public relations officer of East Central Railway, said the initiative was intended to make ticketing “simpler, more transparent and convenient” while reducing reliance on cash transactions. “The focus is on encouraging passengers to adopt digital modes, which will improve efficiency and ease of travel,” she said.
The RailOne app integrates multiple passenger services on a single platform, including booking of reserved and unreserved tickets, platform tickets, live train tracking, PNR status, coach position details, food ordering, complaint submission and parcel tracking. Railway officials said the move was expected to give a boost to digital ticketing across the network.
The announcement came as Mandeep Singh Bhatia, executive director of the Railway Board, visited Patna Junction on Tuesday to review passenger amenities and infrastructure. During the inspection, he assessed the reservation system and stressed the need for its continued modernisation.
Bhatia also reviewed the functioning of the newly introduced OTP-based system for Tatkal ticket bookings and sought feedback from reservation staff on its implementation and operational challenges. He inspected UTS and PRS counters, as well as “pay and use” toilet facilities, and directed officials to ensure regular monitoring of cleanliness across station premises and offices.
The executive director further examined passenger movement arrangements, security measures and facilities in the circulating area of the station, issuing instructions for improvements where required. Senior divisional commercial manager Abhinav Siddharth and officials from various departments were present during the visit.
