Patna: A dispute triggered by a barking dog escalated into a violent assault in Patna’s Shastri Nagar area, leaving four people injured and prompting a police investigation into what residents described as an organised attack.
According to police, the incident occurred on Indrapuri Road No 1 in Samanpura when staff members of a retired judicial officer were walking two dogs. An argument reportedly broke out after a dog began barking, drawing the attention of two local youths. The disagreement intensified when the youths allegedly called others to the spot.
Within minutes, a group of 12 to 15 men arrived in a Thar SUV as well as on motorcycles and scooters, police said. The group allegedly assaulted the dog walkers, beating them with fists and kicks. One of the victims, identified as Toofan Kumar Mehta, was left seriously injured and thrown into a nearby garbage dump before the attackers fled.
Four people, including Mehta and another staff member, Rahul, sustained injuries in the attack. A Dial 112 emergency response team reached the scene shortly afterwards and took the injured to hospital for treatment.
Shastri Nagar police have registered a case against unidentified assailants on the basis of Rahul’s statement. Officers said they are examining CCTV footage from the area to identify those involved and trace the vehicles used in the assault.
Local residents expressed concern over the incident, questioning how a minor dispute could turn into a coordinated act of violence in a residential area. Police said investigations were continuing and assured that those responsible would be identified and arrested.
